Silence

A lot in music is about working with silence.
Silence is the canvass upon which the notes are drawn. When an audience( which is responsible for the silence) locks in with a performer ,the audience can become highly drawn into the performance-creating an electricity between the artist and audience-between the silence makers and the noise maker. This is why ,in live performance ,pauses can be so much more electric than in recorded music.
A great artist is always working with silence-sometimes beconing it forward ,sometimes pushing it back.
At the beginning of every piece is silence , at the end of every piece is silence and underscoring every note of every piece -is silence.
Music is born of silence - for without silence a musician cannot clear his mind ,take to the stage and perform. It is a desire to penitrate the mysterious world of silence that drives musicians to practice long hours, so their well thought out phrases can echo into the abyss ..that is silence.
