...My Favorite Album
Here are some of my favorite albums----some old ..some new----these represent everything i have striven for ---------------------------Todd Rundgren ---Liars.A new discovery for me.This is the only album of his I have heard but it rivals Revolver as my favorite.Plagued by deep ,adult themes of self doubt and fear of death ,yet also infectiously catchy and upbeat,it looks like Todds had to try very hard to remain virtually unknown .The penultimate track "God Said" may be the most profound pop song ever written. This album is superior to Todd's earlier work for which he is better known,he seems to have learnt appreciation for the listeners patience ,whereas his earlier work is more self indugent and testing of the listener--it may become a great lost masterwork as i found its been deleted from all major stockists.----------Revolver Beatles--This was Paul's most English phase. Dour sombre ballads like For No One suggest a melancoly ,lonely England and hint at English plain song (a style Paul dropped after the poorly orchestrated She's Leaving Home). The opening combo of Taxman to Rigby is so startling ,the contrast between the two tracks so great that no album has ever beaten it as an opener. For John lennon however,i think its his weakest Beatles album.Something he ,himself acknowledged- with a couple of truly bad songwriting efforts(Dr Robert and And your Bird can Sing)-------------Air - --Talkie Walkie------Like Liars, this is an album you must hear from begining to end for all the tracks to hold emotional ressonance.Theres a seemlessness and smoothness to the intensity of the tracks that holds you. Best listened to in a coffee bar ..somewhere in France ...with rain falling outside--------------------Ben Solomon--Mad Hatter Days?---Im very fond of this album ,its very moving ,deeply sad and yet always hopefull ,if I hadnt written it I think it would still be on this list------- ---------------
